South Shields based Solar Solve Marine has just dispatched one of its biggest ever orders for a single vessel to Singapore, for the Dynamically Positioned Pipelay and Heavy Lift Construction Vessel Acergy Borealis which is being built by Sembawang shipyard.
The order for the PHLCV was placed in June 2007, with the keel being laid in November 2008 with delivery being scheduled for first half of 2012. With a length of 182mts, beam of 46mts and depth of 16mts Borealis will be powered by 2 Rolls Royce 5.5MW main thrusters to achieve transit speeds of 13 to 14 knots which is almost twice the speed of current Heavy Lift Vessels. She will have a single mast configuration, will be a first-of-its-kind to lift 5,000 tonnes and will have a maximum working depth of 6,000 mts.
Designed by the Ulstein group, Acergy Borealis is a state-of-the-art vessel ideally suited to meeting the demanding requirements of today’s ultra deepwater projects in the world’s harshest environments. When delivered in 2012, the ship will bring unprecedented deepwater Pipelay and riser/subsea construction capabilities to the market.
The consignment of 91 SOLASAFE anti glare sun shades was won by one of Solar Solve Marine’s world wide distributors based in Singapore and will be installed at all of the windows on the navigation bridge and wheelhouse as well as many other control rooms, workshops and offices throughout the new state-of-the-art vessel. They will protect the onboard personnel from the solar heat, glare and uv radiation from the sun as well as cold and glare when the ship works in arctic conditions.
Company chairman John Lightfoot said, “For many years now Solar Solve Marine has worked in partnership with the two companies that form the Acergy / Subsea 7 merger, protecting the Health and Safety of its employees first and foremost by specifying only the most reliable products and suppliers, which is why we are proud to be part of that strategy”.
