The Port of Tyne is a principal port in the North East of the UK; a dynamic trading hub with five business areas; conventional and bulk cargoes, logistics, car terminals, cruise and ferries and estates.
It is a deep river port with round-the-clock access based in Tyne Dock South Shields, with an International Passenger Terminal based in North Shields. Operating a rail terminal linking directly to the UK’s high speed east coast main line, the Port’s location also offers easy access to the UK national motorway network.
Internationally renowned as handlers of energy products, the port handles a variety of products including grain, scrap steel, forest products and coal, with the 4 Liebherr LHM 320 Mobile Harbour Cranes (all 100t at 17m Radius) being the main means of loading and discharge.
John Lightfoot MBE, Solar Solve’s chairman commented, “Our facility is located within the port and we see these cranes in action every day, moving tens of thousands of tonnes a week between them. The crane operators had been troubled by glare from the summer sunshine and approached Solar Solve for a solution. Because of the very tight space restrictions inside the crane cabs, the self-lock SOLAROLA screens were installed and have subsequently been very effective when in use. Naturally we were very happy to help.”
