South Shields based Solar Solve Marine recently dispatched a consignment of their SOLASOLV boat sun screens to the 42 year old Geosurvey vessel ‘Ocean Seeker’.

The ship-set of 7 retractable boat sun screens are for the forward facing windows of the wheelhouse and when in use they will reject glare, heat and uv light from the sun, creating an enhanced environment for the people working on the navigation bridge. Designed to be easily installed, it is expected that they will be retro-fitted at the windows by the ship’s personnel.

Owned and managed by Gardline Shipping of Lowestoft, the ship’s home base; ‘Ocean Seeker’ is a British registered 1,026dwt Research and Survey ship built in 1970 by Fergusons of Port Glasgow and is currently working out of Aberdeen, in the huge Clair field, where it is expected that oil will be produced until at least 2050.

John Lightfoot MBE, Solar Solve’s chairman commented, “It was quite a surprise to learn that this order was for such an old vessel. With the SOLASAFE boat sun screens guaranteed to last at least 5 years the owners must be confident that she still has a lot of life left in her, which is testament indeed to Fergusons Shipbuilders who, I am delighted to say, are still in existence and still building ships of excellence in Port Glasgow.”
