Solar Solve Marine’s chairman, John Lightfoot MBE was once again delighted to be presenting awards sponsored by the company to 3 of this year’s outstanding students at South Shields Marine School.  The  successful  graduates  were  Ismail  Al  Riyami – Oman Shipping  (BEST  ENGINEERING  WORKSHOP  STUDENT); Chris Howard – Chiltern Maritime (BEST ETO WORKSHOP  STUDENT) and Harry Wright – Pritchard Gordon Tankships (BEST NAVIGATION STUDENT).

The very well attended Academic Awards Ceremony took place on Thursday 11th July 2013 at the riverside located Customs House venue in South Shields and was a great occasion for the 127 students who graduated from 8 courses and their very proud family and friends.

After the presentation an excellent speech was given by Terry Cornick,  ceo the Maersk Company, congratulating the students and all of their supporters and assuring them that by being involved with the marine industry meant that they were in a position to take advantage of one of the best career opportunities that would be available to them.  He was also of the opinion that their first move should be to go to sea to get first hand experience of what it was all about and to learn some very important and very useful life skills that will really set them  up  for  a successful  long term future within, or even outside of, the marine industry.

Diplomas were presented to all of the graduates by South Tyneside College’s principal and ceo, Lindsey Whiterod in what proved to be a really well organised and very happy event.

Everyone who was involved should be congratulated on helping to make it the success that it was.
