South Shields, UK based Solar Solve Marine has 17 of its SOLASAFEboat sun screens installed at the navigation bridge windows of ‘VALE BRASIL’, the first in a new fleet of the world’s largest bulk carriers.
At a staggering 402,347dwt, the giant ore carrier is 362mts long with a 62mts beam and depth of 30mts and the first of 7 sister ships currently being built by DSME (Daewoo) and delivered from their Geoje facility in Korea for Vale Shipping of Singapore. Her 39,000 HP single motor, MAN B&W diesel engine, enables a speed of 15 knots as the ship plies her trade transporting mega shiploads of cargo to various parts of the world from Vale Mining’s Brazilian iron ore mines.
Designed to be one of the most efficient long-distance dry bulk carriers in service, the vessel was awarded the accolade of Clean Ship of 2011 at the Nor-Shipping 2011 exhibition.
John Lightfoot MBE, Solar Solve’s chairman said, “As a world class company supplying brand leading products ourselves, we enjoy being associated with and dealing with all things that are the biggest or the best and ‘VALE BRASIL’, along with second vessel ‘VALE RIO DE JANEIRO’ and the rest of her sister ships, are a good example.”
“Being of a gargantuan size and weight, especially when fully loaded, controlling this $115 million vessel will require maximum concentration at all times. There will be many situations when the benefits of using the SOLASAFE boat sun screens are appreciated by the ship’s personnel in helping them to carry out their duties and responsibilities more easily.”
Mr. Lightfoot added, “We are very proud of the fact that the first 4 vessels in the series have now been completed and they all have SOLASOLV boat sun screens installed.”
