On Wednesday 21st September, Carl Johnson, Solar Solve’s Operations Manager visited a local school to take part in a Careers Workshop for year 6 students. It was based on the speed-dating system of moving the children round the hall so that they got to speak to all kinds of professionals to gain an insight into their role within their organisation and the career opportunities available to the students.
Although he was armed with a demo screen, film samples, literature and sales aids, Carl was very impressed when he asked a fresh group of children if they knew what Solar Solve does and one bright young lad said, “Make sunglasses for ships.” By pure coincidence the lad was Jack Sharpe and he knew all about us because his dad is Ian Sharpe, one of Solar Solve’s Production Technicians.
Carl was also overwhelmed by the number of kids he met during the incredibly busy 2 hours, the interest showed by many of them and the logical questions asked. They all seemed to be having a great time and hopefully the event inspired some of them to think about a future career in manufacturing or the marine industry.
