A Memorial to Paul Hopkins
This page is dedicated to the memory of Paul Hopkins, a cherished friend, colleague, and a cornerstone of Solar Solve for nearly 25 years. Paul was the longest-serving member of our team outside of the Lightfoot family, and his legacy of dedication, resilience, and genuine human kindness will forever be a part of our company’s story.
Many of you will know that Paul joined Solar Solve in September 2001 for what was intended as a short-term project. It quickly became clear that his talents and character were invaluable, and he became an integral part of our team. He most recently held the title of Marketing Manager, but his impact stretched far beyond any job description.
Paul was the person we all turned to – a reliable, resourceful, and ever-helpful presence. Whether it was a marketing challenge, a production issue, or an IT hiccup, Paul stepped forward with skill, humour, and an ever-present smile. His sharp wit and fondness for a good prank brought warmth and laughter to our workplace, keeping us on our toes and reminding us not to take ourselves too seriously. He had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel at ease, offering a down-to-earth perspective that helped us remember what truly mattered.
Even while bravely facing health challenges, Paul remained deeply connected to Solar Solve and committed to his work not only at Solar Solve, but our sister company, Rivertrace too. His strength and unwavering positivity were an inspiration to us all.
Beyond his contributions to Solar Solve, Paul’s kindness extended into his personal life. He and his wife, Emma, opened their home to a Ukrainian refugee family, providing them with a safe haven and helping them rebuild their lives in the UK. This selfless act is a testament to the compassion and generosity that defined him.
Paul’s warmth, humour, and decades of dedicated service have left an indelible mark on Solar Solve and on all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him. This page serves as a space to celebrate his life; to remember the joy he brought to our workplace, and to honour the lasting impact he had on our company and our lives.
A Poem from Paul
Paul wrote the following poem shortly before his passing. It is a testament to his spirit, his love, and his appreciation for the simple joys of life. We are honoured to share it here:
A North Shields lad, his life he lived with pride,
With soundest mind and principles to guide.
He passed his exams, a good job he found,
And proper true love on good, solid ground.
He wouldn’t change a thing, not even a jot,
For the years of companionship, he dearly got.
His faithful dog, now waiting in the sky,
Will be keen for a walk as the moments go by.
He waits for his wife, for their walks to unite,
To share the same meadows in glorious light.
May the sense of the sunrise tell him time has flown,
Thanks to those who loved him, and every kindness shown.
Our thoughts remain with his wife Emma, his family, and all who knew and loved him. Go well Hoppaz, you are sorely missed.
