South Shields based Solar Solve Marine recently received two orders for their SOLASAFE®  anti glare roller screens from STX OSV Niteroi shipyard in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to be installed onto Hulls 30 and 31, the latest vessels under construction at the yard.

The Brazilian yard employs around 1,388 people and was originally established in 1997. With skills initially transferred from the Aker group in Norway, the yard began building Offshore Support vessels. There have been a few changes in ownership over the years with Fincantieri now the majority shareholder but despite all this Solar Solve has continued to supply the yard for well over a decade.

80 retractable SOLASOLV® screens will be installed at windows in the wheelhouse in hulls 30 and 31 and when in use they will reject glare, heat and UV light from the sun, creating a comfortable working environment for the crew working on the navigating bridge, during normal navigation at sea or whilst carrying out operations associated with the vessel’s support function and responsibility.

Paul Hopkins, Solar Solve’s Sales and Marketing Executive commented, “We are delighted with Solar Solve Marine’s long-term partnership with STX OSV Niteroi, which began over a decade ago when we supplied sunscreens for some Platform Supply Vessels for Companhia Brasileira de Offshore (CBO) in Brazil which is part of the Fischer group. Since then we have been supplying sunscreens almost on a yearly basis. We are now negotiating the final specification and expect to dispatch as soon as approval is given by the yard.”
