In 2013 we enjoyed the excitement of our famous SOLASAFE screens being featured at the navigation bridge windows of U.S. containership MAERSK ALABAMA, when it featured in the movie Captain Phillips.
Directed by Paul Greengrass, it’s main actors are Tom Hanks, Catherine Keener, Barkhad Abdi and Barkhad Abdirahman. The movie depicts the true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates, of the U.S.-flagged MV MAERSK ALABAMA, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years. SOLASAFE screens were installed at the vessel’s navigation bridge windows at the time of the incident.
In 2017 we experienced more excitement, when we saw 15 SOLASAFE screens at the navigation bridge windows of USS EISENHOWER, in another movie. The order had been received from CBS UK Productions and was dispatched in October 2016, for the film The Long Walk, a seminal action thriller set in Istanbul that was subsequently released as American Assassin.
American Assassin is an American action thriller film directed by Michael Cuesta and starring Dylan O’Brien, Michael Keaton, Sanaa Lathan, Shiva Negar, and Taylor Kitsch. It was written by Stephen Schiff, Michael Finch, Edward Zwick, and Marshall Herskovitz. Nominally based on Vince Flynn’s 2010 novel of the same name, the story is centred on young CIA black ops recruit Mitch Rapp, who helps a Cold War veteran try to stop the detonation of a rogue nuclear weapon. The film was released in the United States on September 15, 2017, and grossed over $67 million worldwide. It received mixed reviews from critics.
In both of these movies, it was great for us to see that the scenes filmed on the navigation bridge, clearly showed Solar Solve’s SOLASAFE screens at the windows. Proud moments indeed.
This year, 2021, an agent for a major movie studio has just been supplied with 8 SOLASAFE screens for a ship’s Navigation Bridge set, of a new movie being filmed just now.
We think it is AQUAMAN 2 – The Lost Kingdom starring Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry / Aquaman and it will be the 3rd movie set we have supplied SOLASAFE screens for, to ensure the set looks authentic.
