Solar Solve Marine, the South Shields based marine equipment manufacturer recently completed a significant order to supply their Brand Leading SOLASOLV screens to 14 vessels in the SKS fleet.
The SOLASAFE roller blinds for ships are installed at the navigation bridge windows and are renowned within the marine industry for rejecting significant amounts of the sun’s glare, heat and uv light.
They will be installed on all 3 classes of the Norwegian flagged vessels within the SKS fleet, which includes the T-Class 110,000dwt Oil/Bulk/Ore (OBO) carriers. These vessels are specially equipped to handle both wet and dry bulk cargoes. Two of the other vessels are of the M-Class slightly bigger OBO’s at 121,000dwt and the rest are S-Class 160,000dwt tankers.
SKS state that whilst the concept of ships that are able to load both wet and dry cargoes is not new, in the past there have been operational shortcomings which they have overcome in the design of their modern double-hull vessels and have also added many additional features. As a forward-looking group seeking to be a strategic partner with its industrial customers by providing innovative solutions that allows them to optimise their supply chain, SKS also take great care to ensure that their own suppliers are the very best.
Carl Johnson, Solar Solve’s Operations Director, commented, “This order was completed in record time at the owners request, as a result of close cooperation with our World Wide Distributor based in Norway, who won the order for us and the personnel on board all of the vessels that were involved.”
“To be awarded the contract for supplying a navigation safety aid to an entire fleet is quite a responsibility and implies a good deal of faith in both the products and the supply chain. We will of course ensure that the owners are delighted with their choice and investment.”
