At the beginning of October, UK based Solar Solve Marine secured a contract to supply 10 SOLASAFE® anti-glare, heat rejecting roller screens to the USNS Vadm VR Wheeler, a Military Sealift Command (MSC) Offshore Petroleum Distribution System ship. The screens were ordered by one of Solar Solve’s Singapore Distributors and shipped to Singapore so they could be installed locally.
Solar Solve have specialised in providing sun and glare protection to the marine and offshore industry for almost 30 years and the company is celebrating its 40 th anniversary in business this year (1975 – 2015). The SOLASOLV® brand of anti-glare screen is installed at the windows of all types of ships, rigs and cranes worldwide. Regarded as essential safety equipment, the screens effectively reject up to 87% of heat and up to 93% of glare from the sun, significantly reducing eye-strain and fatigue, and improving outward visibility. SOLASAFE® screens are guaranteed for 7 years and the only screens in the world to be Type Approved by DNV-GL, Lloyds’ and ABS.
MSC officially purchased the ship in August 2012 in Pusan, South Korea, and will support the U.S. Army and Marine Corps war fighting requirements around the world. The ship has the unique ability to transfer fuel from a tanker to depots ashore from up to eight miles off the coast. The only ship of its kind in the U.S. military or commercial industry, Wheeler has both tunnel and down-swing azimuth thrusters, part of a sophisticated dynamic positioning system designed to keep the ship in place during pumping missions.
Paul Hopkins, Solar Solve’s Sales & Marketing Executive commented, “Supplying SOLASOLV® sunscreens to yet another US Naval vessel is a big plus for our company. We are delighted to be helping our allies again and making sure that the officers and the ship are provided with high quality, British manufactured equipment that assists in the safe navigation of the vessel. ”
