WORLD CUP FEVER

This month see’s the World Cup land in Brazil! As with previous football tournaments Solar Solve staff get involved by trying to predict the group stage results and there is a cash prize for the member of staff with the most points. This will also keep it interesting for those of us unfortunate enough to follow England who have been drawn in a difficult group. Roy Hodgson has selected some exciting players who I hope get a chance on the big stage. The likes of Adam Lallana, Ross Barkley & Raheem Stirling have all had outstanding seasons at club level and hopefully can reproduce that form if called upon. Before the squad was announced I was sceptical about England’s chances. Whilst I can’t see us winning the tournament apparently the omens are good…

  •     Austria won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1966.
  •     Real Madrid won the European Cup and Atletico Madrid won the La Liga title in the same year.
  •     1966 also saw a team came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in the FA Cup final.

If I had to choose an eventual winner I would look to the likes of Brazil or Spain, saying that you can never rule out Germany! One team that I am excited to see playing this summer is Belgium. They are currently blessed with an array of talent who could be dark horses to win the tournament. Regardless of whom you support if your nation is there then good luck – England will certainly need some!
