At the beginning of June South Shields based Solar Solve Marine dispatched a consignment of 16 SOLASAFE anti-glare roller sunshades to their distributor based in Osaka for installation at the wheelhouse windows of 2 new bulk carriers being built in Japan.

Oshima Shipbuilding Co. are finishing off a Handymax Bulker, Hull No. 10705, at their Nagasaki yard for delivery next month. Currently both the name of the 55,116 dwt vessel and the owner have not been made public but the vessel will be delivered with 13 roller sunscreens from the SOLASOLV range installed at the navigation bridge windows. When in use they will protect the bridge personnel from solar heat, glare and uv light to improve their comfort and safety.

The consignment also includes 3 SOLASAFE screens for a 60,527 dwt Panamax Bulk Carrier, Hull No. 050, due for delivery at the end of the summer from Shin Kasado Dockyard Co. in Yamaguchi prefecture. This 200 mtr. long vessel will transport mainly cargoes of grain for Greek owners.

Company chairman John Lightfoot commented, “Orders from Japan dropped off significantly about a decade ago due to the strength of the Japanese Yen and competition from both China and Korea. However the Yen is weakening and Japanese shipbuilders are coming into their own again as world wide shipowners return to place orders in significant quantities. We are fortunate that Solar Solve’s locally based representatives are ensuring that SOLASAFE screens are the product of choice for the solar protection installed on each vessel.”
