South Shields based Solar Solve Marine have just dispatched a consignment of blinds to a US Outfitter for installation at the windows in the Youth Centre on board Princess Cruises Star Princess. The 55 DIMMLITE® roller blinds, Type Approved by DNV-GL, will enable much easier viewing of the VDU’s that form part of many different items of equipment in the recreation areas, such as TV’s and computer screens, especially when the sun is bright, which is most of the time in the areas of the world where she regularly cruises.
The order was exactly the same as the one the company supplied to the same outfitters earlier this year for sister ship Caribbean Princess, and in an unusual quirk of fate (a strange and unexpected event), Solar Solve’s MD, Julie Lightfoot had booked a Caribbean cruise on the vessel, so was able to see first-hand the products in use.
With the appropriate permission, Julie took the opportunity to take some photographs and talk to members of the crew who worked in the area where the blinds were installed. Their feedback was extremely positive with comments that included the fact that because the fabric was ‘open weave’ the passengers enjoyed the benefit of a darkened, glare-free environment but they could still see the view outside and they could also see the displays on the screens much easier.
Julie commented, “The 55 windows were part of a large youth entertainment complex which was very impressive. I was able to take the opportunity to see how effective the DIMMLITE® blinds were and was delighted when the crew who worked in the Youth Centre gave me such positive feedback.”
Whilst another set of blinds have been ordered for the Star Princess, which augers well for Solar Solve, we would like to point out that we do not claim to have any official recommendation or product approval from Princess Cruises.
